Item 2021-06: Postdoc Participation in Academic Governance
Aaron Reifler presented at the September 1, 2020 Steering Committee meeting. The issue was referred to UCAG. Reifler presented at the September 10, 2020 UCAG meeting. UCAG agreed it needed more discussion. UCAG is waiting for a concrete proposal from Reifler. Silvestri emailed Reifler on December 17, 2020 to nudge him.
Reifler emailed Silvestri on January 7, 2021 inviting Silvestri to Grad School advisory committee meeting (members are Tony Nunez, Terry Curry, Melissa Sortman, Erich Grotewold, Walt Esselman, Lalita Udpa, and Reifler). Seeking Silvestri's input on 1) ""creating an advisory committee for postdoctoral affairs,"" and 2) ""establishing representation of postdocs within academic governance."" Silvestri met with the group on January 27, 2021. Reifler et al are reconsidering the scope of their request. As on March 19, 2021, Reifler expects to submit a new proposal the week of March 22, 2021. Silvestri sent the introducer an email on April 9, 2021 to follow up. The introducer emailed Silvestri on April 9, 2021 indicating that they will continue working on the issue next year and that, at this stage, UCAG's involvement is complete.
