Item 2021-10: Provost's Webcam Guidance

Discussed at Faculty Senate on September 15, 2020. The item was tabled until the November Faculty Senate meeting with request that it go to the University Committee on Undergraduate Education. The Steering Committee sent it to UCUE and UCGS on October 6, 2020 with UCUE designated as the lead committee. UCUE will consult with various other groups.

Following an opinion from General Counsel that the policy was what it had to be, UCUE wanted to drop it. UCUE now has a subcommittee working on it. UCUE Subcommittee Chairperson Rich Bellon informed UCUE on January 14, 2021 that the subcommittee didn't find any compelling reasons that the university should revisit the policy.

Among the subcommittee's recommendations: There could be more guidance on implementation. Make clear it doesn't affect visas. Could add a document explaining the drawbacks.

Corner provided an update at January University Council and will give a more fulsome update at February Faculty Senate. Report delivered at February 16, 2021 Faculty Senate.
